1) Know God's Purpose of Salvation

- Mike Bickle  "Growing in Prayer"

1) "Contrary to what some people think, salvation is much more than escaping hell.

It is an invitation to fellowship with God:

"God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord."  1 Corinthians 1:9

The Apostle john wrote: "...that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ." 1 John 1:3

2) "Salvation is also more than a means of gaining earthly happiness by receiving God's

blessing on one's circumstances. Those who see salvation only in this way, pray mostly for

that which will make their lives more comfortable - financial provision, relational blessings,

physical health and anointed ministry - but this is not the ultimate purpose of salvation."

3) "Salvation is God's work through His Son to make a way for us to enter that fellowship."

4) "God is after our hearts. He is looking for our love as true worshippers.

"God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:24

5) "God is searching for those who long to enter into and participate in the love shared within

the Trinity. This is the glorious destiny of those who say yes to His salvation."

"Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.

No one comes to the Father except through Me."   John 14:6

“Ask, and it will be given to you;  seek, and you will find;

knock, and it will be openedto you."   Mathew 7:7

2)  Recognize Sin for What It Is

Ralph Venning - 1669 Puritan Preacher - "The Sinfulness of Sin"

"I say, sin being a transgression of God’s law, which was made for man’s good, the sinfulness of sin must needs lie in this, that it is contrary (1) to God, (2) to man."

1) "Carnal men, or sinners, are called by the name of enemies to God (Romans 5:8, 10; Colossians 1.21); but the carnal mind or sin is called enmity itself (Romans 8:7)."

2) "Sin is contrary to all the names and attributes of God. It sets itself in opposition to them all:

  • It denies God’s all-sufficiency. As if there were not contentment and satisfaction enough to be had in the enjoyment of God… Every prodigal who leaves the Father’s house says in effect, it is better to be elsewhere.

  • It challenges the justice of God, and dares God to do his worst (Malachi 2.17). It provokes the Lord to jealousy, and tempts him to wrath.

  • It disowns his omniscience. Pooh! they say, God does not see, nor does the most High regard.

3) "Sin is contrary to the works of God. It works contrary to God, and it is contrary to God’s works, and is called the work of the devil (1 John 3:8)."

4) "Sin is an anti-will to God’s will; it sets itself to oppose preaching, prayer, and all the institutions of God. And it does this, not only out of envy to man, that he should not be the better for them, but out of enmity to God, that he should not be worshipped in the world."

5) "It is against man’s well-being in this life. Well-being is the life of life, and sin bears us so much ill-will, that it deprives us of our livelihood, and of that which makes it worth our while to live."

6) "There is a resurrection to life for the righteous, the children of the resurrection; and for the wicked a resurrection to condemnation or to death–for this is opposed to life (John 5.29). "

"In this world there is a door of hope, a day, an offer, and means of grace, space for repentance, a Mediator in Heaven, a patient God, and a possibility of being blessed.

But once [condemned], the door is shut and it is in vain to knock."

"The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like.

I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God."     Galatians 5:19-21

Puritan Thomas Watson Preacher 1650

On Sin - 2 min 40sec.

"Shall I not plead for God and your soul, and entreat you to be on God’s side,

and to depart from the tents of wickedness? Poor soul!

Can you find it in your heart to hug and embrace such a monster as this?

Will you love that which hates God, and which God hates? God forbid!" R. Venning

"Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you,

whoever commits sin is a slave of sin."  John 8:34

3) Confess, Repent and Turn from Sin

1) Confess:

"And many who had believed came confessing and telling their deeds."   Acts 19:18

"..that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."  Romans 10:9-10

2) Repent:  "The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise,as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance."   2 Peter 3:9

"For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death."  2 Corinthians 7:10

Billy Graham - What is Repentance 3 min.

3) Turn from Sin: "As long as we have a grain of self sufficiency, we will never trust in the All-Sufficient. While there is anything of self left, we prefer to feed on it.

Only when our stale bread becomes too sour and too moldy for eating,

do we humbly ask for the bread of heaven to satisfy."   Charles Spurgeon

4)  Seek God, Know God, Love God

1) Seek God:

"But seek first the kingdom of God and

His righteousness, and all these things

shall be added to you."   Matthew 6:33

“And do not seek what you should eat or what you

should drink, nor have an anxious mind." Luke 12:29

But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things

shall be added to you."  Luke 12:31

2) Know God:

"And this is eternal life, that they may

know You, the only true God,

and Jesus Christ whom You have sent." John 17:3

"The essence of eternal life is to know God- to have experiential knowledge of Him. It is much more than having information about God - His ways and plans.

He wants us to come to know him intimately by talking with Him and living in the experience of His love. We have been offered the great privilege of knowing God and the call to grow inn prayer is a call to participate in some of the family dynamics within the Godhead."

Mike Bickle  "Growing in Prayer'

3) Love God:

"Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’" Mathew 22:37

"But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life."  Jude 1:20-22

Insight: In order to keep ourselves in the love of God as mentioned

in the scripture above, we must practice being in the presence of God

as described by Brother Lawrence, a 17th centure French Monk

renown for his Book "The Practice of the Presence of God.

Marty Goetz - Oh Lord, Our Lord

5)  Accept Jesus's Sacrifice for Sin

""All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all." Isaish 53:6

"...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.."  Romans 3:23-24

"Therefore, be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect."  Mathew 5:48

"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."   Romans 5:8

"But let us who are of the day be sober,

putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.

For God did not appoint us to wrath,

but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, that whether

we wake or sleep, we should live together

with Him."    1 Thessalonians 5:8-10

7)  A Story about the Pathway to Salvation

The Pilgrim's Progress | Official Trailer (2019) Based on the second best-selling book of all time after the Bible.

The Pilgrim's Progress is the one story that can give our children the courage

to stay on the straight path

in a culture that often stands against them.  An epic tale of a pilgrim

and his burden. Journey with Christian as he travels from the city of Destruction to the Celestial City.

"For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,

that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory,

to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man,

that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith;

that you, being rooted and grounded in love,

may be able to comprehend with all the saints

what is the width and length and depth and height—

to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge;

that you may be filled with all the fullness of God."   Ephesians 3 :14-19
